John Stanley was born c. 1773 and died by 1820. It is believed
that he died in Darlington District, South Carolina.
In the early-to-mid 1790's, John married Sarah Stewart b.1774 in
South Carolina. She died in 1854 in Travis Co. and is buried in
the Stanley family cemetery in Austin. Sarah's parents are still
undetermined, although we have reason to believe her father was
John Stewart Sr. by his first wife. She and her children lived in
Darlington, SC, Williamson Co., TN, Madison Co. TN, Tippah Co.,
MS, and then she migrated to Texas with her sons John, Elias, and
Thomas Edward c. 1849.

1. Elizabeth "Betsy" m. 26 June 1821 in
Williamson Co., TN to Andy Ragsdale.
Children: William J., Mary E., Sarah J., Malissa,
Louisa, Martha, Nancy, Thomas, Winny, and Andrew J.
2. Axie m. 29 July 1819 in Williamson Co. TN to
Abel Ragsdale, believed to be Andy's brother.
Children: Thomas, William, Mary, Sarah Z., Laura
LME, and a daughter who m. William Brown.
3. Winnie b. 1798, m. William Taylor and probably
died in Tippah Co., MS after 1850.
Children: Thomas, William, Alfred, Elias P., Mahala,
Mary Anne, Martha M., and Elizabeth.
4. Blaney H. b. Darlington Dist. SC married Ann
Houston and died in Crittendon Co. AR in 1842.
Children: Leander, John, David, and Catherine.
5. Thomas Edward b. 22 Jan. 1803 Darlington Dist.
SC, d. 1881 TX, and married 22 Sept. 1825 in Williamson Co. TN
to Holland West Gatlin, daughter of William Gatlin and Sarah Hanks.
She was b. July 4, 1800 TN, d. July 4, 1863 Travis County, TX.
Children: Sarah Jane, John H., Thomas Edward, William
James, Booker Foster, Joe, Jefferson Ward, George W., Henry H.
and Elias S.
6. John b. 28 February 1806, died 26 May 1894 Lampasas
Co. TX, m. Edith Smith, sister to Lurana.
Children: Martha, John Thomas, Sarah Margaret, Elizabeth,
Elias S., Benjamin A., Angeline, Mary Anne Kavanaugh, and Josiah
Jackson.
7. Elias b. 13 May 1809 Darlington Dist., SC, d.
1852 Webberville, Travis Co. TX where he was murdered in his blacksmith
shop. He married 6 April 1828 in Madison Co. TN to Lurana Smith.
Children: Sarah Ann, Margaret, Mariah Louisa, Adeline,
Mary Elizabeth, Narcissa, James Bardin, Martha, William Henry,
John Thomas, Elias Kavanaugh, and Lurana Clarenda.
8. Ely who's existence is in question. Elias was
called Eli on his marriage record, and we think they are one in
the same person.
9. Sands b. 1811 SC, died 9 April 1874 Lampasas
Co., TX, married Nancy.
